SCRATCHING THE SURFACE

I am new to TransGaming Studios Inc. and I am the Marketing Coordinator. I am really excited and I really appreciate the opportunity to be here. I have been with TransGaming Studios for about 3 months now and to say that I have learned a lot is really scratching the surface.
This is my first gig as a Marketing Coordinator and while I specialize in Social Media and Communications, I am determined to learn and fine-tune what it takes to be excellent in this position.
One of the main questions people ask me is, “how do I get into the video game industry?” and truth is, it is extremely competitive. Take it from me, it took me almost a year to get where I am (and I’m only just beginning, in a matter of speaking).
I started off with a small little blog (now known as www.pwningpat.com) and essentially, it was quirky me dancing to some funny songs and reviewing video games in the same post. I then started promoting myself on Twitter, one of the best Social Media outlets there are today. I really wanted to branch into the video game world but I did not know how. I have minimal computer knowledge and I am in no way creative enough to draw. Then I thought about it. “Hey, I really like to talk to people, hear their ideas, and sell products in different and fun ways”. I decided to look into Marketing and Social Media as one of my options.
One of the biggest influences I have met on this little journey of mine has been Mary Kurek (@gamemarketing). She has what I would qualify as a dream job. I got in contact with her and was surprised to hear back from her so quickly and eagerly! She helped me reach out to a couple of other contacts, one of them being TransGaming. I sent TransGaming a resume but was told they were not looking for anybody specifically. A month later, I got a call back saying that something came up and can I come in for an interview.
I quickly became Studios intern. Having no previous knowledge about this type of job before, I found it challenging at first. A lot of what I learnt was from self-motivation and it was frustrating at times when I did not know how to do something. I learned that it was okay to make an error though. That trying hard is better than not trying
at all.
Couple of months later and voila! I am now Studios Marketing Coordinator. I am really happy to be here and ever since then, I have been trusted (finally hehe) with more challenging tasks. Every single day is a different day and I am really looking forward for what comes next.
There have been many surprises about this job. However, the main and best surprise about this job has been how extremely supportive and friendly the industry has been. While I still feel like an outsider most of the time, I can clearly tell that the games industry is almost like a family. I really appreciate that and am excited to see where all this takes me!
I am in charge of the Twitter and Facebook pages and I am always ready and able to answer anybody’s questions, concerns or compliments (we accept those too).
Hope to speak with you all soon!
